Wijnaldum "devastated" by prospect of leaving, Firmino a Leipzig doubt

Georginio Wijnaldum claims he'd be "devastated" to leave Liverpool this summer.

The Dutch midfielder is in the final months of a five-year contract, and would be a much coveted free agent with Barcelona reportedly leading a queue of suitors.

Wijnaldum is free to discuss his future plans with other clubs, and could also sign a pre-contract agreement with another club as talks over a new Liverpool deal remain stalled.

The 30-year old is likely to play a 31st game of the season on Wednesday night, with Liverpool looking to book a Champions League quarter-final spot at RB Leipzig's expense.

And despite a lack of certainty regarding his future, Wijnaldum insists he's 100 per cent happy with life on Merseyside.

"It would be really difficult [to leave] because if that happens, you will leave a team who you really love, who you have shared a lot of years together with and where you feel really comfortable," he told a press conference in Budapest.

"It will be difficult but on the other side, you don't know the situation and why you have to leave, so it all depends on the situation.

"But I will be devastated that I am not going to play for this team anymore for sure."

Wijnaldum added, "So I would like to come with news, but the only thing I can say is that I am really happy at the club.

"I am really with the team, the staff and I am really happy with the fans while I play. It is not that I am not happy that I have to leave or something.

"It's not that easy as everyone thinks to make some decisions for your future. You have to think about everything.

"First you have to negotiate with the club and those kinds of things.

"It's so difficult to deal with all kinds of things and that is why I think it takes so long. At the moment, in this situation, [my contract] is not the most important thing,

"The most important thing is to concentrate on winning games again and then we will see.

"But until now, the only thing I can say is that I am really happy here, happy with the fans, happy with the staff, my family is happy here and besides that, there is no news."

Meanwhile, Roberto Firmino is a major doubt for Wednesday night's game with Leipzig.

The Brazilian forward didn't train on Tuesday afternoon as he nursed a knee problem.

But Ozan Kabak is set to return to the Liverpool defence, having missed Sunday's Premier League defeat at home to Fulham through injury.
