Why Manchester United should not sign Gareth Bale

The gossip columns have been filled with whispers of Gareth Bale to Manchester United since he was rumoured to be leaving Tottenham in 2013. Kenny Cunningham believes that if United were to sign the Welsh forward, they would be making a big mistake.

Bale is rediscovering his form at Real and, with a transfer departure possible, United are thought to retain that long-standing interest, but Kenny believes that the quandary over personnel lay elsewhere in their side.

"Manchester United seem obsessed with left wingers - I mean, they are being linked with Neymar! If there is one area of the pitch Manchester United don't need to strengthen, it is the left side of midfield. Rashford and Martial are two of the outstanding young talents in world football and can't get enough game time there at the moment. For me, it's been a bad mistake bringing Sanchez in - there was no need."

The player that Kenny feels is key to United is already there, but thinks that Jose has fudged the decision over his exact role.

"Pogba for me is everything at Manchester United. He's got to make the decision - he has to build that team around Pogba next year. Play his preferred formation with that three in midfield, in the 'V' shape that Madrid do - and buy a quality player to go alongside him in those advanced midfield areas."

"If [Mourinho] is still unsure, he's got to go to a midfield two and get Pogba out. Get him out, get your money back and go after Griezmann. Go and spend your money on Griezmann, who is one of the best numbers tens just off the front man, and look at an orthodox midfield two - and one of them can't be Pogba."
