"It's a shame" - Vera Pauw laments Ireland v Ukraine ticketing outcome

Ireland women's head coach Vera Pauw has expressed disappointment at the ticketing situation for Tuesday night's match against Ukraine.

In her first competitive match in charge, the Irish side beat their visitors 3-2 to make it two wins from two in the Euro 2021 qualifiers.

A record crowd of 5,328 attended the match in Tallaght Stadium. But while it had been a pre-match sell-out, there had been hopes that all 8,000 ticket holders would be in attendance.

Pauw expressed her disappointment that the full allocation was not filled on the night.

"It is a shame," she told Off The Ball at full-time.

"It's a shame because we've been absolutely clear. 'Hand in your tickets' because there are so many people who wanted to come who couldn't come because there were no tickets available.

Different Way

"And that is really a shame. Maybe we need to think about a different way. Because those people will come - everyone will come.

"To get this stadium full, we maybe need to think of how can we organise that. But people have done phenomenal work to get all those tickets picked up.

"Because people had to download them. They had to request them and get them. So it's just a shame they did not come."

Pauw also had her say on Ireland not pushing on from their initial 2-0 lead. The head coach was initially disappointed to cede the advantage but credited the team's spirit for fighting back.

"We made it very difficult for ourselves actually," she admitted.

"Because we were 2-0 up, we had the game in our pocket actually. And because of two individual mistakes, we're suddenly under huge pressure.

"So that third goal, they had this absolute will to not give the win away. We had already prepared what we would do if the pressure would get too high. So one shout was enough and they executed it fantastically."
