Four managers in 32 days, a row with the new coach and months in exile - Keith Andrews' retirement story is a little more unusual than most.
Keith joined Ger in studio for OTB AM this morning, following a sporting weekend crammed with high-profile retirements, particularly in rugby and horse racing. Contracted to Brighton, Keith found himself on loan at Watford where he was initially thought of well and had a relationship with the Pozzo family that saw discussions of taking up a coaching position.
That was until the arrival of current Fulham manager, Slavisa Jokanovic.
"Watford came in [when Keith was contracted to Brighton]. Watford had a good squad, so it was a no-brainer. Then they had four managers in thirty-two days! The last one was Slavisa Jokanovic. I had a row with him. Bearing in mind I had been promised a coaching role with the under-21s [...] by the owner, the Pozzo family and the Sporting Director.
"His way was, on a Friday when we were training, he'd put a squad up on the wall of who was travelling. So we all came back in from training and it's lucky I even looked at the squad because I'd played every game and I was involved.
"I wasn't even travelling to this game. So I grabbed that off the wall, went in to see him and he's having a smoke. We had a bit of a ding-dong.
"My issue was not that I wasn't travelling, it was that I wasn't told."
Keith tried to keep things as diplomatic as possible after the public row with the manager, as he was looking to progress his career with another promotion. But help was not forthcoming from Jokanovic or the Pozzo family, and his coaching plans were brought forward after another loan move to Milton Keynes.
"[MK] offered me a role as a player-coach with a coaching role at the end of it. And I wanted to do that. They could only pay a fraction of what this deal was. This was going on throughout January and I was in training undercover! We got there in the end."
