Stephen Rochford: It's a privilege to manage Mayo

Mayo manager Stephen Rochford has expressed his delight that the county's supporters put their trust in him to lead the team despite never having represented them on the field.

Rochford joined Tuesday's OTB AM ahead of the first round of the All-Ireland qualifiers to talk about the loss to Galway and how he hopes to re-build confidence within the squad as he prepares for another tilt at the All-Ireland title.

Mayo head to the Gaelic Grounds to face Limerick on June 9th as they look to reach a third successive All-Ireland final.

"For me, in may ways, I see myself as being very privileged," he told Ger. "I wasn't good enough as a footballer to play for Mayo and I have been honoured that people in Mayo have trusted in me to lead what have been great ambassadors for Mayo - possibly the finest team to come out over a long period of time - since obviously the teams that won the All-Ireland.

"There's a privileged element to be in that and you understand if you're going to be challenging at the very top - you're going to come under more scrutiny.

"We can see that across whatever sport it is - people don't spend as much time talking about the managers in the mid-table of the Premiership as they do about Mourinho or Klopp or Pep or whoever - it's just the way the world is and I'd rather for us to be at the top, challenging, being critiqued then being struggling in the middle of the table," he added.
