Sligo's Adam Morgan: "I had mental problems - it wasn't my ability"

Sligo Rovers forward Adam Morgan has opened up about the difficulties he overcame before finally settling at the Showgrounds.

Morgan struggled to break into the Liverpool side between 2012-14 and became a bit of a journeyman, playing for eight different clubs, before making the move across the Irish Sea.

"I had mental problems - it wasn't my ability," he told Ger. "I'd say 70% of football is in your head. Without going into it - I got kicked a few times on the way down which led me to be in a bad place personally.

"I think I showed my character that I still want to play football - I believe I can get to a decent level of football and the manager here, Gerard (Lyttle), has been unbelievable with me.

"He's done things for me that no one has ever done for me in my career - he showed me a bit of love and that's what I needed.

"He showed confidence (in me), he didn't need to bring me over. If you look at what's happened - I've gone from club to club and never really been a consistent stayer but now I feel like a completely new man.

"I'm out of the rut I as in and I've come over (to Ireland) and I've start to become a man - that's what I'm trying to do.

"He has played me every game I've been fit for. I was scoring goals but unfortunately I've got a bit of an injury now but he's just done things to me off the pitch, speaking to me and that's what I need to get the best out of myself," he added.

Morgan was speaking at the announcement that Off the Ball has become an official media partner to the club.
