Munster are taking no risks with Conor Murray's recovery

Alan Quinlan joined Monday's OTBAM with the new PRO14 season up and running.

A positive start for the Irish provinces saw three wins from four with Connacht falling just short against Glasgow.

Conor Murray's absence from the Munster squad as he recovers from a neck injury came up for discussion and with no confirmation about the length of time he's expected to be out of the game, former Munster flanker Quinlan believes the southern province are just being precautionary with their star scrumhalf.

"I think there has been no official confirmation of the exact prognosis of the injury because it's one of those ones that could settle down in a few weeks or it could take a little bit longer," he told Ger.

"I think they're cautious to say 'Look, he's going to be back in six weeks or he's going to be back in four or he's going to be back in three months' because I think it's one of those injuries that he's had a bit of a neck problem for a while and they want to try and sort it out.

"There's confidence that it will settle down pretty quickly so it's understandable in a way because you can never really give clarity," he added.

Speaking about the abrasive nature of the game, he said: "You're going to have stiffness in your shoulders, your neck - there's going to be times where you have to get a bit of mobility, a massage - all that kind of stuff for recovery.

"I've never had an injection in the shoulders because I damaged both my shoulders on a number of occasions but he has some specific sort of a neck problem that he's got an anti-inflammatory injection in the neck and they're hoping it'll settle down.

"I think it came in that Wales game last year, or the year before - 18 months ago against Wales over in Cardiff."
