Johnny Sexton has called for an end to the speculation surrounding Joey Carbery’s future after helping Leinster secure a historic league and Champions Cup double.
Carbery has been heavily linked with moves to Ulster and Munster as the back-up Irish number 10 looks to get more game time ahead of the 2019 World Cup.
The Leinster outhalf has seemingly rejected a move to Ulster, who are in need of a senior number 10 following Paddy Jackson’s sacking.
And Sexton, who is currently ahead of Carbery in the Leinster and Ireland pecking order, has called on the relevant decision makers to make their call.
“He’s surrounded by some good people with his Dad and the management people here,” Sexton told Off The Ball.
“He’s been able to call upon some experienced guys as well to look for some advice. But I have felt for him with all the speculation.
“I’m sure the sooner a decision is made the better for everyone involved. He’s obviously a teammate and friend first and foremost – he’s competition as well, I just said that there as a joke.
“Whoever he ends up with – I hope it’s here – he’ll be a great asset for them. He’s obviously so talented and so versatile and he’s got a bit of everything.
“You saw the footwork he did for the try and that’s what he’s capable of. Wherever he goes he’s going to be a massive asset.”
