"I'd never have employed him as a manager" - John Giles on Thierry Henry

John Giles says he wouldn't have hired Thierry Henry as a manager based on his TV punditry.

The Leeds and Ireland legend was reacting to news that AS Monaco have suspended the Arsenal and France legend after a torrid period in charge, pending a final decision on his future.

Monaco struggled prior to Henry's appointment. But he has been unable to inspire an improvement - injuries and suspensions notwithstanding - as the 2016-17 Ligue 1 champions battle relegation. His win percentage was only 20% from his 20 games in charge.

He also courted controversy after using insulting language towards a player in a recent match.

"I don't want to be too cruel on him. He was a great player. But from what I saw of him on the television doing the analysis, I would never have employed him as a manager. Never," said John.

"He lost me"

"Analysis is analysis, analysis is not opinion. Analysis is a fact and it either makes sense or it doesn't make sense.  And anytime I saw Thierry Henry doing the analysis, which is a huge percentage of the game. There were strokes all over the place. And I didn't know what he was on about.

"Knowledge equates to simplicity and if you're doing the analysis, then anybody watching it should say, 'I can understand that. That makes sense.' Now, I'm an ex-professional footballer but when I saw Thierry Henry doing the analysis, I didn't know what he was talking about. He lost me. There were strokes going up here, there were strokes going down there. I couldn't follow him. It means he doesn't have the knowledge to reduce it to simplicity. I thought if he's doing that to us on the television, what's he going to do to the players."

John added that Henry's, "Probably a nice fella, I don't know him at all,  and was a great player. But what I saw on the television, if I was a club owner or director, I definitely wouldn't appoint him as a manager."

Meanwhile, John was also critical of Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri and his man-management this week. He also critiqued the midfield performances of Jorginho and emphasised that N'Golo Kante should be entrusted with his original central midfield position.
