"I hear the noise" - Jeff Hendrick on post-Euro 2016 critics

Jeff Hendrick admits he's well aware of what his Ireland critics have been saying.

The Burnley midfielder earned praise for his performances at Euro 2016.

But the perception is he hasn't kicked on from there for Ireland.

However, Hendrick feels a lot of that is down to not being played in his best position consistently.

"I hear the outside noise and people saying they haven't seen me since the Euros," he said at today's press conference, alongside David McGoldrick.

Difficult

"I know everyone has their own opinion. But I did play a lot of games not in the position I played in during the Euros.

"For me, obviously I try to give everything for the country. But it's difficult when you're playing in a different position to what you're naturally good at.

"But I try to do my best for the team. Like I said, it was tough, when I was playing on the right. At times, I was nearly up front and all.

"So I was just trying to adapt and like I said, just do what I can for the team."

Hendrick will also win his 50th Irish cap if he features against Switzerland in Thursday's Euro 2020 qualifier. But at club level, he hasn't been an automatic choice for Burnley so far this campaign.

Despite that, he insists that it doesn't concern him at present.

"I'm not really concerned. It's still early in the season and I had the full pre-season," he said.

"I probably played the most minutes out of our whole Burnley squad in pre-season. I was playing in every game which was really good for me. But obviously [Sean Dyche] stuck with the lads who started the end of last season and done really well and kept us in the league pretty much.

"So he's shown faith in them. They've got off to a good start as well. But I'm fine. I've been working hard and doing extras every day and get in the manager's eye there."
