Padraig Harrington joined us on the line to discuss all aspects of golf, and signed off by confirming that he is looking to be granted the Ryder Cup captaincy in 2020 at Whistling Straits.
Fresh from his recent second-place finish in the Czech Masters, Padraig gave some perspective to finishing runner-up, saying that many players let it ruin their playing experience. However, it is his status as a European golf elder statesman that has led him to look ahead to 2020.
"Yes, the way my schedule and timings are working out, you have to look to sooner rather than later [for a Ryder Cup captaincy]. You wouldn't want to risk later because there are a pile of guys in four years' time that are going to be putting their name into the hat for consideration at that stage.
"I'm not saying that they won't put their name in the hat in the next couple of years [...] but it looks like Whistling Straits in 2020 is something that I will look to do, and hopefully I will get the nod if that's the case. But, in the main, we are not talking about who is doing what and what is happening before this Ryder Cup.
"Certainly for me, I don't envision waiting around until I'm 54 years old, because you could be long forgotten."
