"The FAI Cup has been devalued to a point this season" - Dundalk's Vinny Perth

Dundalk head coach Vinny Perth feels the FAI Cup has been "devalued" this season.

Speaking to Off The Ball's Jamie Moore at the Aviva Stadium on the pre-2019 final media day, he added that it's an opportunity for both Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers to put on a show for the fans.

"I think there's no doubt that the FAI Cup, in my opinion, has been devalued to a point this season," he said.

"So I think this is a good opportunity for both teams to put a special day on. There's no doubt that they are the two best teams. Not every cup final is brilliant and I hope it's similar to the games we've played against each other this season where it's been good, free-flowing football and been a real showcase.

"It's an opportunity for us to represent the league and make people proud of what we have to offer."

Issues

Perth also expanded on why he feels the FAI Cup has been devalued.

"For example, the quarter-final, we had to play on a Monday night down in Waterford and played Cork on the Friday before that where we're trying to win the league.

"We've had other issues - teams moved, games moved. This is the showcase cup. We should be very proud of this cup. People have forgotten about that and maybe I shouldn't bring it up. But I really hope we can finish it in style here in the Aviva Stadium."

Perth's Shamrock Rovers counterpart Stephen Bradley also spoke to Jamie at the Aviva Stadium. He feels the venue and atmosphere won't affect the players.

"Our players have played in a lot of big games throughout their careers," he said.

"We've six full internationals. So I don't see the stadium, the crowd or the pitch being an issue for either team."
