Colin Bell - "They are like vikings, they have that viking mentality"

Ireland WNT know they're facing a tough task when they host Norway in their World Cup qualification clash tonight, according to manager Colin Bell.

Currently sitting second in their group, one point ahead of Norway though tonight's opposition hold a game in hand, Ireland have to make the most of their home advantage tonight to ensure their qualification hopes remain in their own hands ahead of the return fixture with Norway and a clash with Northern Ireland.

Speaking to OTB yesterday, Bell, who used to manage in Norway, said that while could be an advantage for his side, he hopes his players focus on their game and not worry about the opposition.

"We're well informed and now we're trying to give that information, in a filter way of course, to the girls so they can use it. That's what we're hoping for, but of course we have to concentrate on the things that we do well and exploit their weaknesses".

Despite currently being placed higher than tonight's opposition, Bell is fully aware of the task that lies ahead, with the Norwegians talent and work ethic being well known to both coach and players.

"It'll be a really, really tough match and the Norwegians have a similar mentality to the Irish, that means they're very aggressive, a natural aggression. They obviously try to bring it to a positive direction, physically very strong so we'll be up against it. They are like vikings, they have that viking mentality, so we have to know that and hold against that".

Bell isn't worried about fitness levels when it comes to the quick turnaround between fixtures, with the return clash taking place on Tuesday, and believes it to be a good experience for his players as it will prepare them for the non-stop nature of tournament football should they qualify for the World Cup in France.

"I don't think I have any doubts with the girls, they're so motivated and look after themselves. Of course I know and they know that we have to increase our fitness levels going forward, especially the players playing in Ireland, that's a given and they know that. It is getting better, big thanks also to the clubs. The coaches are doing some really good work, so everything is moving forward, but it's a tough ask. Two games in such a short space of time, but that's also tournament football, so if you really want to get to France that'd be like the norm".
