Are we writing Tipp off too early?

Tommy Dunne joined Monday's Off the Ball to look back at the weekend's hurling action and was in positive mood despite Tipperary losing their opening match of this season's Munster Championship on Sunday.

Limerick prevailed at the Gaelic Grounds by six points but Dunne, the county's minor manager, doesn't believe the senior team are too far off their best form.

"There was a tremendous exchange under the covered stand where both where both sets of players went into the contact at 100 miles per hour," he told Joe, "And John McGrath's one-handed strike of the post and Dan's follow-up finished the move off and a huge swing in Tipp's favour but that epitomised that part of the game - it was very competitive until maybe the last three or four minutes before Limerick pulled away.

"There was nothing in the game until then. Sometimes I think people, particularly if you end up on the losing team, supporters can get very pessimistic and maybe sometimes analysts as well can summarise the game very quickly that Tipperary were completely outplayed.

"They weren't completely outplayed as far as I was concerned. We didn't have the upper hand in many sectors in the field but Tipp were very much still in the game with five or six minutes left. Limerick finished the stronger team - no question and were fully deserving of their win but Tipp were competitive right through but just weren't firing on all cylinders for whatever reason but Limerick are coming on and everyone knows that and they lived up to that billing yesterday and played tremendous stuff," he added.

Tipperary host Cork at Semple Stadium next Saturday.
