Wales head coach Wayne Pivac has revealed that three players in his squad contracted coronavirus but have since recovered.

The New Zealander wouldn't identify the trio but confirmed they are now fit and well.

“It’s ripping through the communities here in Wales,” Pivac told 1 News in his native New Zealand.

“At the moment we’ve had two or three cases that I’m aware of within our squad.”

The reigning Six Nations champions had been due to face Scotland last month in Cardiff but the game was postponed at the 11th hour due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Wales are scheduled to travel to Japan to play them on the 27th of June, before flying to New Zealand for matches in July.

There are plans to rearrange the games for October, depending on what happens with the pandemic.

"I don't think anyone wants these tours to be cancelled. We need them to be played," the former Scarlets coach said of the need to get those fixtures played later this year.

"We need the money into the game for the game to survive. We're all in the same boat there."

World Rugby have this week announced a 100-million Euro pot to help federations through the current crisis and Pivac is welcoming that funding:

"With government supporting people and World Rugby doing the same thing with governing bodies it is a no-brainer really."
