Sunday's GAA wrap - Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues

It was a busy afternoon across the Allianz football and hurling leagues today, with plenty of games across the two codes on the second weekend of action.

In the all-Ulster derby in Castleblayney, 'Banty' McEnany's Monaghan impressively swept aside the challenge of Tyrone on a 1-12 to 0-11 scoreline in Division One of the football.

Former All-Star Karl O'Connell scored the goal for the Farney men in the second-half, while Conor McCarthy added some important points from play for the home side.

Dermot Malone was a crucial cog in the Monaghan engine, while there were late red cards for Kieran Hughes (straight red) and Kieran Duffy (second yellow), with Tyrone's Mark Bradley also shown his marching orders.

The result ensures Monaghan respond perfectly to last weekend's disappointing one-point defeat away to Galway, with a trip to Croke Park to take on Dublin next up for Monaghan next Saturday night.

Donegal were also winners in the top tier today, consigning Meath to a second defeat from their opening two games.

Declan Bonner's side won by ten in the end, on a 3-8 to 0-7 scoreline. Michael Murphy contributed 1-2, with Michael Langan and Odhran McFadden-Ferry also raising green flags in Navan.

In Division Two, there was a crucial one-point win for Clare over Kildare, while Fermanagh came from behind to beat Roscommon by the minimum at Brewster Park in Enniskillen.

There were over 14,000 people in attendance as Limerick beat Galway at the Gaelic Grounds in Division One Group A of the hurling.

Galway's Joe Canning had to be replaced during the Tribesmen's defeat with a hand injury.

Darragh O'Donovan impressed with a Man-of-the-Match display for the home side at the Gaelic Grounds in their 1-19 to 0-14 win.

Waterford were 3-18 to 1-15 winners over Westmeath in the other game in that group.

Brian Lohan took the bragging rights from old teammate and rival Davy Fitzgerald as Lohan's Clare beat Wexford by three points.

Elsewhere, Dublin beat Laois by a margin of seven at Parnell Park, while Brian Cody's Kilkenny were comfortable 3-21 to 0-9 victors over Carlow.
