Peter Harte cleared to face Roscommon

Tyrone forward Peter Harte has been cleared to play in their Super 8s match at Roscommon tomorrow.

The black card he received against Longford in the qualifiers was rescinded by the Central Hearings Committee last night.

Harte had been facing a one-game suspension for receiving three black cards in 2019.

Tyrone boss Mickey Harte said after their win over Cavan last week that he would be 'disgusted' if one of three black cards weren't overturned.

“We’re going to appeal all three, I don’t think any of the three he got in recent games were black cards at all.

“I have to ask myself the question, if you’re looking at this game, in the stage of the game it happened, why in God’s name would Petey Harte want to take any risk of a black card?

“If we look across the game, I saw other incidents across the game which to me would have merited a black card more than what he did. Any of the black cards he got, the general consensus of opinion is they’re very harsh.

“I think some people have lost track of why this was introduced at all. It was introduced to stop cynical play, deliberate pull-downs or deliberate trips, by hand or foot.

“And I suppose the fact that you have to get three before you can appeal any tells its own story. So many of them are appeal-able that they don’t want to be taking them up every week if one comes up, because that’s what happens.”

While Red Hand legend Peter Canavan feels Harte needs to re-think his tackling technique.

"Look, Petey has to look at the way he's tackling. He's attempting to make shoulder tackles but leading with the leg and some referees are interpreting that as a trip.

"It was well covered on The Sunday Game and each of the lads said it was laughable that someone can get black cards for that. Was it cynical? No. Was it deliberate? No.

"When you compare it with some of the things that are happening on the pitch that refs are letting go there's a serious degree of inconsistency. I would be very surprised if at least two, if not all three of those cards aren't rescinded."
