Manchester United's Harry Maguire is telling the side's fans to judge him in five or six years as to whether he is a success at the club.
The England international signed for the Red Devils in the summer on a six-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year, for a deal believed to be worth around €93 million (£85 million).
"It's the long term, that's what the main thing is," he told Manchester United fan magazine, Inside United. "In five or six years, judge me then - whether I have been a success at this club or not.
"I do believe and am really confident that, in five or six years, I'll be a success and I am sure we'll have many, many good times here. We need to keep improving as a team, not just me as an individual. I feel, if we improve as a team, I'll be a success too."
He became the most expensive defender in the world when he joined the Old Trafford side in August. He was asked if the price tag was a worry for him.
"It doesn't bother me at all. It's something that I can't affect. Leicester wanted to keep me and they are in a great position as a club.
"Manchester United wanted to buy me and they came to an agreement. It's probably a good deal for both parties and it's something now where I want to concentrate on my football."
The situation at Manchester United has raised eyebrows in certain weeks following performances, in particular at the weekend losing 1-0 to relegation-threatened Newcastle United.
In the wake of the result, Pat Nevin told Off the Ball that the issues at United have been growing for a number of years, "for me, it probably stems from the Moyes sacking - it is that far back. They said to him that he had two or three years to rebuild the whole thing. He said he would do that - then they gave him the sack.
"They twisted again with Van Gaal, who is not going to be a long-termist. You go for Jose - he is great at what he does, but he is not interested in what he leaves. He is never interested in that.
"He is a gun for hire. If you have guns for hire all the time, that is why you find yourself where you are - with absolutely no balance in the squad."
