Ireland out-half Joey Carbery has undergone more surgery on his ankle and could now miss the rest of the season.

Carbery opted to go under the knife after advice from a specialist last week, he's been troubled by his ankle since suffering the issue in Ireland's Rugby World Cup warm-up win over Italy last August.

The Munster playmaker had been sidelined for four months with a wrist tendon injury picked up in December and the Reds' say his latest surgery was an "elective procedure".

"While rehabbing from his current wrist injury, Joey Carbery attended an ankle specialist last week who advised a further surgery," Munster announced in an injury update.

"As Carbery is already undergoing rehabilitation for a wrist injury, it was decided to go ahead with the elective procedure on his ankle."

Chris Farrell and Jack O’Donoghue have both been released from the Ireland squad to train with the southern province this week ahead of their Guinness PRO14 match against Scarlets at Thomond Park this Saturday.

Niall Scannell and Shane Daly are both having scans today following last Friday's win over Zebre. Scannell has a leg injury while Daly felt "hip tightness" in the warm-up ahead of the game.

An x-ray has shown that Craig Casey hasn't suffered any fracture to his hand.
