German football league chief aims to complete Bundesliga season by June 30th

German Football League chief executive Christian Seifert says they're still hoping to complete the Bundesliga season by June 30th but he admits they're preparing for other options.

The DFL has already halted games in the top two flights of German football until at least the 30th of April due to the coronavirus epidemic and that suspension is likely to be extended next month.

"We aim to end the season by June 30th, and that is still the status today," Seifert told an online press conference this afternoon. "We want to see what is possible.

"If games can take place, it can be assumed that they will necessarily have to take place without spectators, possibly into next season, maybe until the end of the year."

Sefert added that Bundesliga clubs will not be punished with points deductions should they fall into financial arrears as a result of the crisis and says things should be clearer after tomorrow's UEFA meeting.

"We do not know yet what further developments in England, Spain, France and Italy will look like.

"There is a lot of uncertainty. We have better conditions than others in Europe. The discussions we have with our media partners take place at a different level."
