Dybala to United deal off due to player's wage demands

Manchester United have ended their pursuit of Juventus striker Paulo Dybala - due to the Argentine's wage demands.

The 25-year-old's move to Old Trafford was part of a swap deal for Belgian international Romelu Lukaku, who would have joined up with the Serie A champions.

Dybala joined Juventus in June 2015 from fellow Italian club Palermo for a deal worth up to €40 million. In his time with The Old Lady, he has made 182 appearances for the club in all competitions and getting himself 78 goals in the process.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has targeted young, hungry players and United officials have concluded further bids for Dybala would be a move away from that.

Uncertainty now surrounds the future of Romelu Lukaku. He had been linked throughout the summer to a move to Inter Milan. Antonio Conte, manager at the San Siro club still believes they can get his signature.

"We continue to work on this deal in the best way possible," said Conte. "I understand there are some gaps that need to be filled, but at the moment I'm very hopeful this will happen. I'm sure Lukaku is a good player and a striker in the past I tried to buy when I was Chelsea's coach."

Manchester United have made two signings this summer after already getting right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace for €53m and winger Daniel James from Swansea for €16m.

Harry Maguire's move to Old Trafford is expected to be completed in the coming days as he had been reportedly seen in Manchester over the weekend, with the belief that he was completing a medical.

The deal is expected to go through for around €93 million (£85 million). Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has called the deal an "incredible piece of business." The Old Trafford club are also reported to be looking at purchasing Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon, however, it is believed they will have to fight with Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid for his signature.
