Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can lead the club back to its former glory by invoking the spirit of Sir Alex Ferguson's side, according to Andy Mitten.
Mitten joined OTB AM to discuss the United's historic 3-1 away win against Paris St Germain - the first time in Champions League history that a 2-0 home defeat has been overturned in the competition.
There were many stand-out performers on the night, but rarefied air is reserved for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who oversaw a tactical nullifying of a bejewelled PSG side - missing ten players from the first team squad.
"He is tactically smart. He doesn't say a lot to the players, but when he does talk - they listen to him. He uses the first couple of minutes of half time to get his strong words out of the way.
"But even when he criticises the players, they feel he does so in a constructive manner. He talks to them like footballers because he was a footballer.
"He does have the advantage of not being Jose Mourinho. He came in and there was a chance for him to pick the mood up off the floor. He did that from the first day."
Andy relayed word from the club that Solskjaer is keen that fans see this victory as a team effort not just of the players, but all the coaching staff behind the scenes.
However, Marcus Rashford was one outstanding individual in the team crown, and it is his home-grown aspect that has United fans invested that little bit more in his development.
"He grew up three miles from where I grew up," Andy said of the young Mancunian.
"For a lad who your mates know, to see him thrive as a Manchester United player and score a goal of that magnitude in the Parc des Princes, of course it adds value to it.
"This is not someone who has been brought in on wages of £400,000 a week and talking of always wanting to play for United, when you know it isn't true. He is a United fan - he's from Manchester!
"I love the idea the idea of the young players coming through because it is so important a part of this club. Be it players coming from Dublin, or George Best from Belfast, or Marcus Rashford from Manchester. It makes football better."
The question that appears to have been answered is whether Solskjaer has what it takes to be Manchester United manager full time.
There will continue to be a cloud of uncertainty around the manager's job until the point that it is offered to Solskjaer. But Andy believes that it is a matter of when, and not if, Manchester United offer Solskjaer the manager's job on a permanent basis.
"I was speaking to some pretty senior people yesterday. I am not going to say that he has been offered the job for certain because he has not been - but I tweeted last night that he should be offered the job now, and he should be. I am pretty sure that that is the overriding sense, and the club know that."
Mitten also feels that it is potential interest in Solskjaer from other clubs that might prompt the club to act, and it appears that there may be League of Ireland interest...
"[Manchester United] have been able to take time, because they have had time."
"As somebody at the club said to me last night, maybe he needs to be linked with another club for United to make a decision. So I'm officially linking Solskjaer now with Shelbourne!"
