For the guts of 20 years, Barcelona legend Xavi got to play in a cathedral of football like the Nou Camp every other week.
But Anfield was one stadium that left him lost for words.
In an interview with FourFourTwo magazine for their May 2016 edition, the World Cup-winning former Spain midfielder recalled the experience of facing Liverpool at Anfield in 2001.
"The fans remained for the whole game and never stopped applauding their team. I couldn’t believe it. I was speechless," he said.
The four-time Champions League winner, who is finishing his illustrious career in Qatar, also shared his admiration for Liverpool legend John Barnes in his formative years.
"I remember watching John Barnes at Liverpool - wow, what a player he was," he said.
The 36-year-old has also previously spoken about his awe when watching Southampton one-club man Matt Le Tissier as a youth.
