Would any clubs take a chance on Tim Sherwood?

Listen to the full interview via the podcast

"He made a complete and utter mess of it!"

That's what Daily Mirror Chief Football Writer Martin Lipton had to say on the show tonight about Tim Sherwood who was sacked as Tottenham head coach today.

While the news was far from a shock, where do Sherwood and Tottenham go from here?

"I have to say, I wonder what kind of club would take him on. I think the reputational damage of being a loose cannon is far worse than just being sacked by Spurs," said Lipton of Sherwood's future as a manager, with his overly-outspoken nature being a stumbling block for his prospects.

Lipton felt the job was too big for Sherwood at this stage of his career and pointed out that Spurs were "battered" in every big match they played.

Lipton named Mauricio Pochettino and Frank De Boer as front runners to take over the vacant manager's job because Spurs want progressive young coaches, and he also echoed Sherwood by ruling out an English choice.

While Tottenham's summer transfers were criticized, Lipton feels it wasn't the complete unmitigated disaster that was made out, citing Christian Eriksen and the potential for Erik Lamela to come good.

He also added that in "pure business sense they are a success" because they have made money despite small attendances compared to the clubs around them.

Lipton believes director of football Franco Baldini will be in the "line of fire", although he is likely to get one more summer to prove his worth.
