Why reports linking Yaya Toure with Liverpool make little sense

Due to his apparent willingness to remain in the Premier League and the fact that his brother Kolo is living life as a cult hero at Anfield, some sources are putting two and two together when it comes to Yaya Toure's future.

The Manchester City midfielder is expected to leave the Etihad this summer when his former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola comes in.

Thus he is being linked with other Premier League clubs and according to reports in England, Liverpool is a lead option for the aforementioned reasons.

The Express states that bookmakers are tipping Anfield at 5/1 as his preferred destination ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United.

But his signing would appear to be an odd one if other factors are taken into account.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may reconfigure his midfield but it would likely be in a mould that emphasise high energy and pressing.

Neither of those words could be tied to Toure (32) as he advances in age and that's without mentioning his high wages.

Talented though he may be, his profile does not fit that of a Klopp player.

In addition, the Reds have tended to favour a model of spending money on younger players, with a few exceptions like Kolo who in any case arrived on a free.

So it seems rumours of a move for Yaya could be jumping the gun, although fans at least have a chant for him based on the one they have reserved for his brother.
