More than likely Liverpool did not expect to be dealing with yet another biting case involving Luis Suarez.
Yet the Reds will have to deal with the consequences of the Uruguayan's bite on the biggest stage of all.
"Privately, Liverpool will be dismayed," The Times' Tony Barrett told us tonight, even though Suarez' latest transgression took place on international duty.
"It was a situation they thought they had under control in the last 12 months. They worked particularly hard on Luis Suarez and his state of mind in certain situations and they felt they'd got on top of that."
Suarez has been linked with Spain's Big Two this summer, but how would the bite affect any move from either club and the price involved?
Barrett is confident that a lengthy FIFA ban would not apply to club football and added that Liverpool's position has not changed: they are counting on him wearing the Red shirt next season and believes his latest contract will have a number of clauses linked to different situations.
"Yesterday I thought it was more likely that he would be at Liverpool. If you're club about to spend £70, £80, £90 million on a player, would you take the risk of signing a footballer who carries those risks that Suarez clearly does," said Barrett, although he acknowledged that according to reports, the bite has not made much difference to Barca and Real's interest.
