We won't be seeing a President Ginola at FIFA

David Ginola is out of the running to become the next president of football's world governing body FIFA.

The ex-Newcastle winger was being backed by well known bookmaker Paddy Power to challenge Sepp Blatter in the upcoming elections.

The Frenchman says all financial donations made towards his campaign will now be returned.

A statement on the Team Ginola website reads:

"A huge thank you for supporting Team Ginola. The crowdfunding page is now closed. All donations will be returned to those that have pledged.

"The fight is not over. Football still needs to change. I urge you to continue to vocalize your craving for change in football in whatever way you can. Let it be known that no matter how small you think your voice may be alone, if we speak together we will be heard. Whilst FIFA may not be an open democracy for the footballing public, our opinions will be heeded, only if we persist."

Every candidate has until tonight to prove they have the backing of at least five football federations if they are to run.

Thus far the candidates include Dutch FA President Micheal van Praag, ex-Portugal captain Luis Figo, Jordanian FA head Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein and former FIFA official Jerome Champagne.
