England manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will remain as England captain.
Rooney replaced Steven Gerrard as captain after the 2014 World Cup, but Allardyce would not confirm if the Manchester United captain would keep the role, when he was unveiled as England manager.
The 30-year-old is England's record goalscorer with 53 goals, and is joint-second on the all-time appearance list with 115 caps. He needs another 11 caps to beat Peter Shilton's record.

Rooney was named as a midfielder in Allardyce's first squad, but could still play as a striker during the campaign. England begin their 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia in Trnava on Sunday.
"Wayne has been an excellent captain for England and the manner in which he has fulfilled the role made it an easy decision for me to ask him to continue," Allardyce told The FA's website.
"Wayne’s record speaks for itself. He is the most senior member of the squad and he is hugely respected by his peers."
"All of these factors point towards him being the right choice to lead the team."
