There is nothing as satisfying for footballers and their coaches than a perfectly executed training ground routine.
New York Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch will have been delighted to see his team take the lead against FC Dallas on Friday night with a free-kick he could not have hoped would have worked out better.
With less that ten minutes left in the first half, two New York players ran over the ball when a free kick was in an attacking position. Instead of shooting, Sacha Kljestan chipped the ball towards the back post, surprising the Dallas defence.
The ball was eventually headed in to the six-yard box before the former Charlton and Leeds striker Lloyd Sam found the back of the net. Perfection.
Sam's goal was the start of an excellent night for the team as the Red Bulls won 4-0.
