Goalkeeper Ali Saqr will not look back on Thursday night's defeat against Al Ain with too much fondness after he conceded five goals and then got sent off to boot.
Runners up in last season's league, Al Ain proved to have too much for Saqr's Emirates on the night, and the gulf in class told within the opening stages. The goals came quick and fast, with Dyanfres Douglas scoring two and Caio Lucas adding the third shortly after the 20 minute mark.
Douglas added a third for his hat-trick while Danilo Asprilla made it five, despite a consolation being scored by Sebastian Sacha to at least give the fans something to cheer about.
They weren't cheering very much at 5-1 down, of course, but there was even less enthusiasm from them when Al Ain were through on goal again, and Asprilla began to put on a bit too much of a show for Ali Saqr's liking.
Although the goalkeeper was able to get the tackle in despite the fancy footwork, he stood straight up and took aim at the Colombian, striking him in the stomach with his elbow.
As the referee ran over to issue a red card, he decided that he might as well add insult to injury (or at least make sure of the whole injury part) and decided to stamp on Asprilla for good measure.
Sacha got another for Emirates to make it 5-2, but there's likely to be a lengthy suspension handed down to Ali Saqr for his actions.
