There was only one name in the running for the man of the match award as Peñarol took on Defensor Sporting in the Uruguayan Primera División.
Having just returned from Lima in the early hours of Saturday thanks to a Copa Libertadores game, manager Jorge Da Silva rotated his side a little to give some players a rest for the match against their Montevideo rivals, but one man who featured prominently was Diego Forlán.
Despite falling behind in the first half to a sublime free kick from Felipe Rodríguez for Defensor, at that point the former Atlético Madrid striker decided to take the game by the scruff of the neck and never looked back.
He grabbed an equaliser with his right foot, put his side in front with a fine left foot finish, provided a great assist from a free, put another one on a plate for Miguel Murillo and capped it all off with a fantastic looping header.
