Wales manager Ryan Giggs gearing up for Nations League triple headers

Wales international manager Ryan Giggs is gearing up for a hectic UEFA Nations League schedule if the games do get underway this September.

Wales are in the same group as the Republic of Ireland, Bulgaria and Finland with the Irish games due to take place in October and November.

Giggs and his squad had already sealed qualification for Euro 2020 which he will have longer time to prepare for now.

"Well obviously we were looking forward to preparing for the Euros this summer which has now been put back a year," said Giggs on Sky Sports' Football Show podcast.

"It's not the end of the world. Obviously we want everyone to get back to normality sooner rather than later.

"For me it's probably not as problematic as the Premier League managers. I've just got to plan now a year ahead and hopefully look forward to, hopefully, the games in September when the Nations League starts."

Ireland's postponed Euro 2020 play-off against Slovakia could still be rescheduled for this year but it is unlikely to be played before the Nations League matches are due to commence in September.

Wales are due to come to Dublin in October while the reverse fixture is to take place in Cardiff in November.

With that in mind and with leagues around Europe still trying to plan dates to finish out the current season which is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, rescheduling international matches may prove to be tricky.

"We're earmarked for September, triple headers, so three games rather than the usual two games because obviously there's still games to be played for the play-offs to get to the Euros so they want to earmark that for November," Giggs added.

"So yeah there's been a little bit of a change, it's going to be different. Just like everyone else we're just waiting really and hopefully getting back to football, when it's safe, sooner rather than later."
