Vfl Wolfsburg have terminated the contract of striker Nicklas Bendtner with immediate affect.
Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs defended the move claiming that the former Arsenal attacker posed "a threat" to the team earlier this season when they released him from training.
"Certain things happened. We saw him as a threat for the collective," Allofs said. "That's why we need to act.
The club said in a statement today: “Both Nicklas and ourselves had high hopes of his engagement at VfL Wolfsburg, but after two years, we have had to ascertain that the expectations were neither fulfilled for him nor for us and a continued cooperation made no sense for either side.

"For that reason, the mutual decision to end our association prematurely is thus the best solution for all parties. We wish Nicklas all the very best for his future career."
The striker had already been fined by the club for showing up late to training and got into hot water after being pictured with Mercedes car, as the club are sponsored by Volkswagen.
