Van Gaal treats players like 'kids' according to former player

Former Manchester United winger Nani has blasted Louis Van Gaal over his treatment of players at the club.

The Portuguese winger said that the Dutch coach would shout at players like "they were kids, like 18 year olds."

Nani never had the opportunity to impress under Van Gaal and was loaned out to Sporting Lisbon during his first season in charge, with the current United boss declaring the club didn't have any top class wingers.

Now plying his trade at Turkish side Fenerbache, Nani has spoken out about his brief spell under the coach.

“He and his assistant would shout at players like we were kids, like 18-year-olds,” he told the Sunday Times.

“And I would think, ‘This is not the way to treat us because I am professional. I am training every day, and I am doing nothing wrong.

“It’s difficult to play football when somebody is saying ‘Come on! You must pass the ball like this, blah, blah, blah.’ It’s crazy, because football is instinct and decision. It’s what you see.

The 29-year-old also added that the club is not the same as it once was under Sir Alex Ferguson.

“Now when you see Manchester, it’s not Manchester.

“With all respect to the players who are there, the personality, the mentality is all different. When you see Manchester United go inside the pitch you see a new era.

“Before you had big names, experienced players who represent so many years at the club. Now you see players who are maybe in their first year, their first time in the Premier League. It’s all new"
