Louis van Gaal says he will speak to Jose Mourinho over the Chelsea manager’s claims that signing Luke Shaw would have signed for Chelsea if the London club had offered the same money to the player as Manchester United did, according to reports.
Chelsea were interested in buying the 19 year old but Mourinho has said their interest was ended by the player’s wage demands. Shaw signed for United for €34m and is reported to be earning wages of €126,000 per week. Mourinho felt that paying a 19 year old - who has less than 2 years first team experience – that level money would be damaging to the club’s financial stability and dressing room morale.
"If we pay to a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, to sign Luke Shaw, we are dead," Mourinho said
"We would have killed our stability with financial fair play and killed the stability in our dressing room, because when you pay that much to a 19-year-old kid - a good player, fantastic player - but when you pay that amount of money, the next day, we would have had players knocking on our door.
"They would have been saying, 'How is it possible I play 200 games for this club, won this and that, yet a 19-year-old comes here and gets more money than I get?"', Mourinho said.
Van Gaal insisted he would not be getting into a public dialogue with Mourinho and would rather discuss the matter with him in person.
"I don't think I have to discuss things in the media, it's better to discuss it with Jose," he said.
Mourinho was Van Gaal's assistant at Barcelona for three years and the pair are believed to have a good relationship.
