Louis Van Gaal has responded to Pep Guardiola’s comments claiming Manchester United “don’t have enough money” to attract the biggest names – specifically Bayern stars such as Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller.
Van Gaal dismissed the Bayern Munich manager’s claims, saying a club of Manchester United’s stature would always attract the top talent. Van Gaal said that there has been no lack of desire from players to play for the Old Trafford club, saying “every player I have contacted has wanted to play for Manchester United.”
"It is not so interesting what he (Guardiola) said," said Van Gaal.
"I think every player that I have contacted wants to play for Manchester United.”
The lack of Champions League football for United this season could be seen as an impediment to attracting the biggest names, but the signings of Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria seems to have put p[aid to that argument, and Van Gaal insisted it has not be an issue for the club.
"It is unbelievable that despite not playing in the Champions League, the players are still coming and are willing to come.
"That is surprising - but it is because of the greatness of this club.
"They believe in the project we have started now, although I say it again, it needs time."
