Tottenham's resurgence under Jose Mourinho is a worry for the rest of the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspurs tremendous upturn in form is a cause for concern for the rest of the Premier League, according to David Meyler.

What a difference a few months can make. In September Spurs limped to a 1-0 defeat to Everton at home.

At that point, there were rumblings of discontent, however, seven weeks later they are top of the Premier League, level on points with champions Liverpool.

Meyler joined Ger Gilroy and Eoin Sheahan on Monday's OTBAM to talk about the improvements Spurs have made in recent weeks under Jose Mourinho. He believes that Mourinho has found the spark that seemed to disappear from the Special One while at Old Trafford.

"It was quite interesting to hear him after the game he said 'I do not care what position we are in. I just want to win the next game.

"It sounded to me like he had that bit between his teeth back. For the other teams that is a worry."

Certainly, Mourinho's time at Manchester United ended in turmoil. At a club struggling to return to the glory of past years, the pressure on Mourinho to win was huge.

Now, he has a squad that looks hungry for success and in Harry Kane they have a world-class centre forward who's game continues to evolve and improve. The captain's performances have been devastating this season.

Harry Kane's evolution

The striker is known for his ruthlessness in front of goal. At 27, he now continues to exhibit wonderful vision, dropping deeper and creating chances for others.

Son Heung-min has been the main beneficiary of Kane's inch-perfect passing and Meyler believes that this one-two punch will develop further from more work on the training pitch.

"It was obviously something they had spoken about and worked on. When you have got someone like Steven Bergwijn and of course, the form Son Heung-min is in, sprinting in behind, it was almost as if Mourinho had outthought the tactician in  [Pep] Guardiola," he concluded.

With nine assists to his name already, as well as seven goals, there is no telling what kind of player Kane can become. It is also difficult to tell where Tottenham can go under Mourinho.

Spurs title aspirations

It is not just the players at the front of the pitch that are winning games for Tottenham. They are much improved defensively in recent weeks.

They have only conceded nine goals in the league this season and for this credit has to go to the manager, according to Meyler.

"They just look different. I think the signing of Pierre- Emile Hojbjerg in midfield, he has been immense for them. Mourinho seems to have tweaked Tanguy Ndomblele who has turned into a right good player.

"He always had it in him but now he is finding a way to get more out of him for the team.

"They look like a great outfit. The way they are going the should be there or thereabout at the end of the season."

If Mourinho manages to lead Tottenham towards a first league title since 1961, it would be a fantastic achievement for a coach who has won it all before at multiple clubs.

With Liverpool breathing down their necks it will be difficult for Spurs but at the moment, with Kane leading the charge, they certainly are in a position to make the champions fight to retain the title.
