"It took my breath away" - Vinny Perth on Jose Mourinho's call & Joe Schmidt's texts

Vinny Perth has spoken of the 'breathtaking' moment that Jose Mourinho called him, in the midst of post-match emotions after Dundalk's penalty win last night.

Vinny was speaking to Nathan Murphy in the aftermath of the Lilywhites' win over Riga in the Europa League first-round qualifiers, where Sean Hoare's penalty sealed it for Dundalk.

But it was a post-match call from a rather unexpected guest that caught the eye - Jose Mourinho.

"That was a strange one," Perth told Off The Ball on Thursday.

"What I found fascinating was that Jose had watched the game, and he spoke about some of the tactical side of it - he spoke about the change that we made with Murray.

"It took my breath away, I didn't expect it and it definitely came out of the blue.

"I know that for a while he's been interested in what we're doing at Dundalk and he's sent some texts and different bits and pieces like that."

While Perth was overcome with emotion at the result, he felt that Jose might not have got the best of him - but he's by no means the only famous face to have been in touch after last night's result.

Damien Duff, Keith Andrews and Brian Kerr all also sent congratulatory texts.

"The world has got so much smaller now, so you're able to communicate easily with people like Jim McGuinness and Paddy McCarthy at Crystal Palace."

Even the Ireland rugby coach was in touch to say thanks, and it is a facet of the modern game that Perth has come to appreciate - that knowledge-sharing is so readily possible.

Expect Fergie and Pep on the blower if they end up beating Qarabag..!
