'Too passive' | Kennedy rues Celtic's Scottish Cup exit

Celtic are set to go a full season without a trophy for the first time since 2010 after exiting the Scottish Cup at the hands of Rangers.

Steven Gerrard's side were comfortable 2-0 winners in their fourth-round clash at Ibrox on Sunday.

Steven Davis gave Rangers the lead after just ten minutes before a Jonjoe Kenny own goal doubled their advantage.

Celtic had the chances to get back into the game.

The best fell the way of Odsonne Edouard, who failed to convert from the penalty spot in the 79th minute.

After losing the Premiership title, and suffering elimination from the League Cup, Celtic are now guaranteed to end the season without silverware.

They had won the cup in each of the last four years.

After the game, interim manager John Kennedy addressed his side's inefficiency - which has been noticeable in a number of fixtures this season.

"It's been something we've had an issue with [finishing chances]," he told Celtic TV after the game.

"It's down to confidence as well, first half I thought we lacked a little bit of belief both in terms of how we defended and pressed and moved the ball."

Kennedy, who assumed interim charge following Neil Lennon's departure in February, was disappointed with his charges performance in the opening period.

"I thought we were very slow starting, especially first half," he conceded.

"I thought we were too passive, very tentative in terms of how we pressed which has given us a lot of success in recent games,"

"Even with the ball I just think we were passive, passing it for the sake of passing it, passing the buck on sometimes,"

"So we addressed some things at half-time in terms of having a bit more purpose to our play, being more aggressive and I think we showed that in the second half but when you concede two goals and are 2-0 it's always difficult."
