While for many the scars of 2009 may never heal, the Irish more than most will see the humour in the fact that Thierry Henry is now a playable character in the new NBA video game.
On a cold night in Paris, Irish hearts were broken as a devious act of blatant cheating was missed by officials and capitalised upon by William Gallas to send France to the 2010 World Cup finals.
The handball seen around the world has never been truly wiped from the Irish psyche and the newest feature of the NBA 2K series will see him play as a character in the game as well as sit courtside for his favourite team, the San Antonio Spurs.
"Being a basketball and NBA fan since I was a kid, I'm honoured to be the first football player ever to be playable in NBA 2K17," he said in a statement. "Seeing myself go toe to toe with the legends of the sport is an amazing feeling."
Henry will be available as a playable character in the game's Blacktop mode, which supports small games between two to ten players.
The French World Cup and European Championship winner has frequented as a pundit on Sky Sports, but also has joined Roberto Martinez at Belgium as an assistant manager.
