"There’s a lot of Celtic fans out there who’ll feel let down"

Chris Sutton has accused Brendan Rodgers of letting Celtic fans down.

The former Liverpool boss is in talks about a return to the Premier League. Leicester City made an approach to him.

Celtic have confirmed they've allowed the Antrim native to speak to the Premier League club.

The Hoops however admit they were reluctant to do so but had no choice when Rodgers made it clear he wanted to explore the opportunity.

Nonetheless former Celtic striker Sutton was not pleased with how Rodgers has handled the approach: “Quite frankly, it stinks, the timing of it stinks.

“He’s going to a club who are playing for absolutely nothing, also they’re not getting relegated, they’re not getting into Europe.

“I am really disappointed, I think there’s a lot of Celtic fans out there who’ll feel let down, this is the job which Brendan said was his dream job.”

Rodgers set to depart Celtic

Sutton went on to accuse Rodgers of leaving Celtic in worse shape than he found the club:

“Why is he going now to a club who have nothing to play for?

“I think he’s left the club in a tough situation, short term loans, losing the centre half pairing and the right back in the summer there’s a big overhaul which needs doing.

The club released a statement after reports emerged that Rodgers has accepted the job at Leicester.

"Celtic Football Club today confirmed that it has been approached by Leicester City FC to speak to Brendan Rodgers with regards to their current managerial vacancy.

"Brendan has indicated to the Club that this is an opportunity he wishes to investigate further and therefore, very reluctantly, the Club has granted him permission to speak to Leicester City."

Two months after his departure from Hibernian, Neil Lennon is the early favourite for the top job in Scottish football. He's also set to be prepared to take the job before their next game.
