Liverpool are off to a winning start in the Premier League, winning 2-1 against Southampton at Anfield as they begin life without Luis Suarez.
The home side started well, with Raheem Sterling scoring a tidy finish after a sublime through ball from Jordan Henderson set the 19 year old through on Southampton’s goal.
Southampton – 5/1 to for relegation before today’s kick off – were not to be swept aside by the Brendan Rodgers attacking machinery, however. The Saints looked the more dangerous tem for long periods and took their equaliser with an emphatic finish capping a superb move.
Nathaniel Clyne scored a top corner blast past Simon Mignolet on 56 minutes.
The hosts were not to be denied the perfect start though and Daniel Sturridge scored the winner on 79 minutes.
Shane Long had a chance to make it 2-2 before the end but he put the ball narrowly wide with a header, when it may have been a simpler task to score.
