Stuart Byrne believes the League of Ireland would benefit from marketing its idols.
Stuey was on Off The Ball tonight to chat about the latest news in the Premier Division and he feels profiling players adequately in the media could have a positive effect.
"There's umpteen amounts of TV coverage that could be used to profile players yet the FAI never do anything in regards to trying to increase the profile of a particular player," he said.
"In terms of football in this league and trying to attract in younger supporters, the league needs an idol, a David Beckham-type figure. Richie Towell might well have been that last year but what did the Football Association do to promote this guy? This guy was fantastic, yet he's come and he's gone."
