Stuart Byrne feels the Kenny Shiels effect has been the main reason why Derry City have made an excellent start to this season.
The former Shelbourne and Longford Town midfielder joined Off The Ball as always on a Tuesday to talk League of Ireland and he has been impressed by the impact the new manager has had on a side that is now level on points with Premier Division leaders Dundalk after seven matches.
"I think Kenny Shiels is one of these kind of managers who loves to get himself embedded in the community, tries to galvanise everybody around the club and certainly looking at the way Derry are playing at the moment, even listening to the likes of their main striker Patterson speaking about the effect that he's had on the club, how all the players are suddenly playing for the jersey, that you want to work hard," he said, adding that traditional Derry sides are dynamic honed by an intense home atmosphere which had seemed to dampen slightly.
"They're on the crest of a wave and momentum is going with them at the moment. They're capitalising on it."
