'I'm the first woman to do it so it's obviously a great achievement'

Earlier today, we got the very welcome news that Ireland's Stephanie Roche had made it into FIFA's final three-person shortlist for the Puskas Award for the best goal of the year.

On a very special day for the France-based striker (which could get more special on January 12th should she beat James Rodriguez and Robin Van Persie to the prize), Roche joined us on Off The Ball to talk about her excitement at making the shortlist.

"I'm the first woman to do it so it's obviously a great achievement and something I'm delighted to say I've done," said Roche, who scored her wonder goal for Peamount United and confirmed that she will attend the glitzy ceremony in Zurich alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Roche also took us through the making of the goal from inside her own thought process.

"At the time it was instinct. But that defender who was marking me had been marking me tight all game so I was kind of aware of where she was. So I knew she would be close behind me. It all happened so fast," she explained.

Roche also gave us an insight into her decision to make the move to French football with ASPTT Albi and how she is settling in.

She also picked out which one of the two rival goals by Van Persie and Rodriguez she would prefer to end up ranked second and third behind her goal.
