Pochettino feels overturning of Son's red is fair

Tottenham Hotspur's Heung-Min Son has had his red card that he received at the weekend overturned.

He will therefore be available for their next three domestic games against Sheffield United, West Ham and Bournemouth.

The Spurs forward was shown a straight red card by referee Martin Atkinson during their 1-1 Premier League draw with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Toffees midfielder Andre Gomes suffered a fractured ankle in the tackle that South Korean Son was sent off for.

Everton have confirmed the Portuguese international was discharged from hospital today after successful surgery on the injury.

Explaining Atkinson's decision at the time the Premier League said: "The red card for Son was for endangering the safety of a player, which happened as a consequence of his initial challenge."

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said at the time that the forward had no intention of injuring Gomes and believed the video assistant referee system should have been used to overturn the sending off.

"It was clear it was never the intention of Son to create the problem that happened afterwards. It is unbelievable to see a red card," he said.

Reacting to the decision to overturn the card today the Spurs boss was relieved and felt the right decision had been made.

"It was good for everyone, I think it's fair.

"The most important thing is it's fair.

"What we cannot change now is the result because in the moment that this situation happened it was 1-0 for us.

"To play with 10 men for nearly 15 - 20 minutes I think was the key to draw the game but we cannot change that.

"It's a fair thing that happened to the Premier League and of course it's good for him and it's good for the team."
