Solskjaer refuses to be drawn as Erling Haaland speculation mounts

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to be drawn on whether or not the club is interested in Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.

The 19-year-old is currently in fine form with  Austria's Red Bull Salzburg and he has a release clause in his contract making him available for the relative bargain of £17 million.

Now, after scoring 28 goals in 22 games so far this season, including eight in the Champions League, Halaand has become one of the most sought after young talents in world football.

United's head scout Marcel Bout was despatched to watch him against Liverpool in the Champions League last week, and the club is believed to be on the verge of launching a bid for him.

Halland, who played under Solskjaer at Molde FK in Norway reportedly has his heart set on a move to the Premier League.

It's believed that Solskjaer flew to Austria over the weekend to see their 2-2 draw with Hartberg.

When asked about their interest in the teenager, after their 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday, Solskjaer wouldn't be drawn though, saying:

"I don't comment on them speculations.

"He knows what he wants to do and he knows what he's going to do."

It took 18-year-old striker Mason Greenwood to come off the bench to rescue that point off the Toffees.

Solskjaer had particular praise for the youngster, who he says is showing maturity beyond his years;

“Mason is different class in and around the box. You're not surprised when he scores goals,

"We wanted the ball to drop to Mason because he’s so calm and composed and when he gets a chance he takes his chances t’s just so natural for him, he knows exactly what to do.

"If you open your legs, he shoots through you. If you close your legs, he shoots round you. He can go on his right or left.

“Too many chances are missed in football from strikers rushing the finish, or stressing. The best ones, they have that extra half a second and he does

“It doesn't matter who is in goal or who is he playing against. He just knows where that goal is going to end up and as I've always said before, there's no such thing as a good save, only a bad finish, and he can finish that boy."
