On a night of emotion, let's throw in a bit of rationality as Ireland put themselves in a great position to qualify for Euro 2016.
As things stand, Martin O'Neill's side are guaranteed at least the third placed playoff spot we currently occupy, with Poland currently on equal points but significantly ahead of us on head-to-head (courtesy of their 1-1 draw in Dublin earlier in the campaign) and goal difference.
Let's assume table-toppers Germany do not lose at home to Georgia on the final qualifier matchday this Sunday and it will leave our clash with the Poles as the final arbiter of which team goes straight to France next summer and which one will have to go through the playoffs.
A win of any description against Poland, of course, will put Ireland straight into Euro 2016 without a bother. A defeat will have the exact opposite effect and consign us to the playoffs.
A draw makes things a bit more complicated, given that we and Poland are level on points. The second tie-breaker criteria set by UEFA in these qualifiers is "Superior goal difference in matches played among the teams in question".
So, Poland have an away goal from our 1-1 draw in Dublin, which means if we draw 2-2, 3-3 or any higher score draw we qualify given that more away goals signify a better result for us.
