During his time with Kilmarnock in Scotland, Derry City boss Kenny Shiels had his fair share of verbal run ins with officials and other managers.
He was very critical of the refereeing from their 1-1 Premier Division draw with Dundalk on Friday, reasoning that "one of our players [Conor McCormack] was sent off for nothing. I think the referee made a mistake" as he told RTE TV afterwards.
BBC Scotland's Eamonn Donohoe joined Oisin Langan and Richie McCormack on this week's Newstalk Airtricity League podcast and he says that the Northern Irish-born coach did go toe to toe with officials while in Scotland.
"It sort of led to his demise in part as Kilmarnock manager less than 18 months after winning the League Cup," said Donohoe.
"The statement that Kilmarnock released at the time was suggested that it was for football and regulatory reasons that led to his sacking. I think there was a heavy onus on the regulatory reasons because towards the end of the 2012-13 season, the club had ran out of patience with his constant remarks in the press post-match."
Donohoe reasoned that Shiels' passion and love for Kilmarnock may have contributed to him "overly vigorous" defence of his team against perceived injustices, while he also spoke of a war of words between Shiels and other coaches including then-Hibernian boss and current Shamrock Rovers manager over a diving controversy.
But Donohoe believes Derry may well be the right club for Shiels.
"I think Derry will be a good fit for him because he really believes in community and the community of his clubs," he said.
