It is a result that reverberates beyond the borders of Brazil, but the 7 - 1 defeat for the Selecao is a good thing for the game according to Off The Ball's European football correspondent Graham Hunter.
"I was thrilled. It was a tremendous victory for football. My antipathy towards Scolari the coach knows very few bounds - not the man. It's not personal," he told us.
"But I think he has been prehistoric knuckle-dragging, the football version of a Visigoth or Vandal for many, many years with thuggishness and tactical fouling as an integrated part of his team's repertoire."
Graham believes that Scolari's tactics have undermined the talents of the squad at his disposal, although he did not see Brazil being beaten by such a wide margin.
On the changes of German football since 2002, Graham likened Jurgen Klinsmann to "David Bowie" in the sense that he played a key role in overhauling the structures of German football, with Joachim Low the "perfect man" to take the project further.
"They have annihilated a paper-thin, pathetic Brazil on that night, but they're here to win the tournament! The 7 - 1 will mean extremely little if they don't win the final."
